1A2 x Develop local P/C company list with key contacts. The Dallas chapter maintains close ties with insurers in the community, with 3 companies sponsoring the All Industry Day at the Diamond level, 3 at the Platinum level, 14 at Gold, 8 at Corporate. In addition to insurers, 17 other firms such as independent agencies support the All Industry Day. 
   
1A3 x Conduct a Connections visit.  Dallas All Industry Day brings together leaders of the entire Dallas insurance industry. The Society president conducted the conferment in front of an audience of approximately 1,200; and had an opportunity to promote CPCU at that time. In addition, a smaller dinner was hled the night before the event and the president and many chapter leaders were in attendance. 
   
1A4 x Conduct any additional Connections visit(s) to local employer(s).  
   
1A5   Develop local materials for your Connections Kit.  
   
1A6 x Identify "Champions" in your chapter; submit list. The following additional chapter members have gladly agreed to be Champions: from McQueary Henry Bowles Troy--Don Bowles, president, writes that he considers Tom Ellis, Jane Passino, Jeff Patterson, and Greg Rimling as the real Champions in his agency; from Roach Howard Smith and Barton, we have Karen Farris, president, and Katie Guiou, a 2007 designee and new board member of the chapter; Cindy Gwekwere, a 2007 designee from Gramercy Insurance Company who has so impressed the president of her company that he called the AICPCU to brag about her. Other Champions include: Steve McElhiney of EWI Risk Services; Ed Wells of America First Insurance; John Mullen, president of Unitrin Specialty; Pat Karpovitch of Wells Fargo Insurance Services of Texas; Kathleen Landino of Liberty Mutual; Barney Mercer of Mercer Recruiting; Jane Damon of Wachovia; Tracey Weston of AAA Texas; David Bayless, president of Bayless-Hall Insurance; Belinda Ervin of RLI Corporation; Michelle Castro, corporate counsel for State National Companies; Bob Gulino of Hartford; Maureen McLendon of IRMI; Tom Glasson of AIG, and John Orr of Rimkus Consulting. These are in addition to Jack Gibson, Bill Sleeper, Susan Tanner, and Debra Richardson.
   
1A7   Additional activity promoting/supporting Connections/Champions. The chapter maintains ongoing support of UNT and its students in all chapter activities. As mentioned elsewhere, they participate at the Dallas All Industry Day (including receiving a portion of the profit from AID). They also participated in the charity golf tournament, with Republic Insurance sponsoring a foursome that included 3 students and one Republic's employees. They have an opportunity to network and also a good opportunity exists for employers to meet the students.
   
  B. CANDIDATE DEVELOPMENT  
   
1B1 x Activity to attract new candidates to begin the CPCU or one of the IIA programs.  (note: this is not for existing candidates or new designees) Rob Olson taught two 3-hour classes at the University of North Texas--fall 2007 and spring 2008--where he regularly promotes CPCU and IIA programs; Chapter booth at All Industry Day; display of AICPCU course information and offering of course scholarship as door prize at annual golf outing
   
1B2 x Program to retain existing candidates/reduce barriers to completion. Exam preparation classes are regularly held between the end of formal classes and exam time.
   
1B3 x Conduct or sponsor formal CPCU/IIA classes. CPCU 510 and CPCU 540 and INS 21 classes were conducted this chapter year.
   
1B4   Conduct a marketing program to promote Candidate Membership in the CPCU Society.  Describe. At the October chapter meeting, a Bring a Candidate to Lunch contest was held, with everyone bringing a new candidate eligible for a drawing and free lunch for the new candidate.
   
1B5 x Work with AICPCU on a joint presentation or booth at a local  AICPCU and the Dallas chapter had a booth at the Dallas All Industry Day November 20, 2007
  company/agency office or industry convention.   
   
1B6 x Additional Program supporting development of CPCU candidates. The chapter offers mentors and experienced leaders to help candidates prepare and study for exams. This is promoted through the Chaptergram and at classes and chapter meetings.
   
  C.  GRASS ROOTS ("SPREAD THE WORD" )CAMPAIGN  
   
1C1   Establish a "Spread the Word" Committee. Provide names.  All chapter members are encouraged on a continuing basis to "Spread the Word"
   
1C2 x Encourage "Spread the Word" activities by your members; describe how promoted/how ideas are shared. Article in February 2008 Chaptergram advertising free brochures to "Spread the Word;" article in November 2007 by a 2007 designee attesting to her Mount Everst moment of attaining the CPCU designation; article in January 2008 Chaptergram about earning college credit for CPCU courses
   
1C3   Track the "Spread The Word" activities of your members.  
   
1C4   Submit a "Spread the Word" idea to CPCU News.  
   
1C5 x Conduct a good works project and publicize it in your local press, chaptergram and/or your web site.  Describe the project and how promoted. This year's good works projects included: two "Meet and Greet the Troops" activities, including giving gifts of water bottles, etc., to returning military; food collection at All Industry Day; Christmas gift cards for Our Friend's Place; Santa's Helpers (and food and clothing) at Metrocrest Social Services; food to the North Texas Food Bank; and charity golf tournament benefiting Our Friend's Place. In addition to good works undertaken by chapter members this year, chapter past presidents collected $1,634 (at the chapter meeting at which they were honored) to commemmorate a past president Joyce Tharp who had passed away in 2007. $1,317 of the money collected went to CPCU-Loman Education Foundation; and $317 to the Tharp Memorial for Multiple Sclerosis.
   
1C6 x Advertising in local/regional P/C or business press. Advertised new designees in All Industry Day program; also list them on chapter website
   
1C7 x Promote chapter educational events.  Describe how. Advertise at chapter meetings; in Chaptergram; and on chapter website
   
1C8   Speakers Bureau: deliver at least two presentations. Describe.

1C10 x Hold a joint educational or networking activity with an insurance group in your community. The chapter meets yearly in May with the Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter of RIMS.
   
1C11   Hold a joint educational or networking activity with a non-insurance group.  
   
1C12 x Earn visibility from awarding a scholarship - describe how it was promoted and winner publicized in chapter publications and/or local press. At the June 2007 chapter meeting, a raffle garnered $500 in support of the Dallas Boys & Girls Clubs Mathblazers Program. Ivan Bullock, chapter member, represented the chapter at the tournament, and a picture of the winners appeared in the September 2007 Chaptergram.
   
1C13 x Appoint chapter webmaster; keep current information on web site. Promote web site to members. Sharon Lindsey is the Webmaster; and the chapter keeps copies of current and archived Chaptergrams, calendar of activities, list of officers, directors, committee leaders, job postings, photo gallery, chapter bylaws, and almost any type of information that would be of help to anyone wanting to know more about the chapter.
   
1C14 x Promote web site to others (e.g. local employers, organizations). The website is promoted at chapter meetings and any other meeting in which a chapter member participates.
   
  D. ETHICS  
   
1D1 x Conduct an Ethics Awareness Month activity.  Describe. The March chapter meeting was devoted to Ethics Awareness, with an attorney speaking on the subject and a 2-hour CE-approved ethics course following the luncheon. The workshop was free for all who attended the luncheon.
   
1D2 x Publish ethics article in Chaptergram or on chapter web site or  The March Chaptergram and the chapter website featured an article about ethics. Also, the CPCU Professional Commitment is published on chapter website and recited at monthly meetings as well as at conferment.

  GOAL # 2 - MEMBER SUCCESS  
   
  A. KEEPING MEMBERS AT THE TOP OF THEIR PROFESSION TECHNICALLY  
   
2A1 x CPD: maintain an active program to encourage and assist members to earn CPD certification.  Describe your program. The Dallas chapter website includes information about the CPD program--currently 95 members are qualified for CPD.
   
2A2   Conduct a member survey to solicit input on members' training needs, ideas for cutting edge topics, etc.  
   
2A3 x Conduct a workshop or seminar (longer than chapter meeting) for insurance industry audience. Three CE courses (1.5 hours each) were presented at All Industry Day.
   
2A4 x Conduct an I-Day.   Provide details. "The World of Tomorrow" Dallas All Industry Day--a joint project of the Dallas Chapter, the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas, and the University of North Texas--was held November 20, 2007. It is an all-day event, and includes CE-approved seminars, CPCU conferment, and an exhibit hall. UNT insurance students are among the approximately 1,200 who attend this event.
   
2A5 x Partner with the CPCU Society to co-sponsor a technical workshop in your local area.  Provide topic and date. "Building Communication Strategies: Leveraging your Best Thinking" was planned, but a date that would work for the speaker could not be worked out.
   
2A6   Conduct any additional technical insurance program.  (This can be a chapter meeting).  Suggestion:consult with your governor to develop the program. Provide date, speaker and topic.  
   
2A7 x Chapter web site: publish technical, leadership and/or career planning educational information on your web site. The chapter maintains an active job placement service, and the chapter website is kept current with respect to career opportunities.
   
2A8 x Promote attendance at the CPCU Annual Meeting.  Describe how promoted to your general membership (just sending an officer does not qualify.) A summer 2007 meeting featured a Hawaiian theme, and chapter members were encouraged to dress for the occasion--with prizes given to the male and female who were voted the most appropriately dressed for the occasion. Also, a "beaches and boots" themed luncheon was held in Hawaii, and all attendees and their families were invited before leaving Dallas.
   
2A9   Conduct a Research Study and publish results to members and outside audiences.  
   
2A10   Scholarship or loan program that benefits chapter members or candidates.  
   
2A11   Submit an article to the e-Journal.  
   
2A12   Submit an article to an Interest Group newsletter.  
   
2A13 x Work with your chapter Interest Group members to plan any educational program.  Give details on topic and interest group. In the February 2008 Chaptergram, Jane Damon and Howard Townsend, our Interest Group committee leaders, wrote an article about Interest Groups; and also copies of Interest Group newletters were made available at the chapter meeting that month. 
   
   
  B.  LEADERSHIP and PROFESSIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT  
   
2B1 x Maintain an active program to develop chapter leaders.  Describe your program. Note: this must be in addition to item 3A1. The nominating committee sends an e-mail and also advertises in the Chaptergram, soliciting members to make it known that they are interested in getting more involved in the chapter and in serving the chapter in some manner. All responding are contacted before and after the nominating committee meets and then information concerning all is passed on to the next year's leaders fo that they can follow through on continuing to encourage and use those who are willing to serve.
   
2B2 x Promote attendance by chapter general membership (not just send one or two persons) at the CPCU Society Leadership courses offered prior to Annual Meeting and at the Leadership Summit.  Describe how promoted. The Leadership Summit is advertised in the Chaptergram, in the president's message in the Chaptergram, and at chapter meetings.
   
2B3 x Partner with Society to sponsor or promote CPCU Society Center for Leadership Course(s) in your local area or at a local company.  Provide topic and date. Although the Dallas chapter did not sponsor a course this chapter year, the course that the Ft. Worth chapter brought to the area was promoted by the Dallas chapter in e-mails, the Chaptergram, and at chapter meetings.
   
2B4   Conduct any additional program focusing on leadership skills. (This can be a chapter meeting speaker).  Suggestion:  consult with your Governor to develop the program. Provide date, speaker and topic.  
   
  C.  RESOURCES FOR CAREER MANAGEMENT  
   
2C1 x Conduct a career development program at chapter meeting or other event (not just a social). Describe. Dr. Brenda Wells, a co-sponsor of the University of North Texas Insurance Club, spoke at the February Dallas chapter lunch about "Hiring the My-Space Generation;" she brought some of her students to the luncheon, and talked to the group about how to communicate effectively between the generations. Also, the May joint meeting with RIMS featured a presentation about the future of the insurance industry as respects employment needs and opportunities in light of the changing workforce.
   
2C2 x Assist new members (tranferring or new designee) to meet other chapter members and become oriented to the chapter. New members are added to the Dallas chapter member database and chapter leaders make a concerted effort to meet and get acquainted with new members. One new designee has been elected to the board, and two other new members have been elected as officers.
   
2C3   Promote the CPCU Society Job Network.    
   
2C4 x Provide networking and other types of assistance to out-of-work members.  Describe. The chapter has a very active job placement committee, and advertises such in the Chaptergram and on the chapter website on a continuous basis.
   
2C5 x Conduct any additional program in support of members' career development. "Building Leaders One on One" book given to all new designees, chapter past presidents, others during the year
   
  GOAL # 3 - STEWARDSHIP  
   
  A.  CHAPTER PLANNING  
   
3A1 x Send chapter leader(s) to the Leadership Summit for the Chapter Leader Conference. The chapter's president-elect, vice president, secretary, and treasurer were in attendance at the April 2008 meetings.
   
3A2   Send chapter webmaster to Malvern for chapter webmaster training. Sent Sharon for training last chapter year
   
3A3 x Conduct annual planning session to establish goals and objectives for the upcoming year. Two separate planning sessions--July 18 for committee leaders, and August 22 for officer/directors--were held in 2007.
   
3A4 x Submit names of chapter leaders to the Society by June 1. Submitted 5/31/2007
   
3A5 x Complete the Circle of Excellence Planning Checklist (or more detailed planning document); share/discuss with the membership and describe how the plan was shared. Discussed with chapter leaders at the two planning meetings, with particular emphasis to those responsible for the various activities planned.
   
3A6 x Send planning document to your Governor and to Malvern at the beginning of the chapter year (suggested by Sept. 30). Tom Glasson, the governor for Dallas, also serves on the Dallas board and was in attendance at the August 2007 meeting.
   
3A7   Develop a written marketing-communications plan for your chapter events (dates for press releases, chaptergrams, web update plan, marketing plan for major events, etc.).  
   
3A8   Conduct overall membership survey to assess member satisfaction and recruit volunteers for chapter leadership positions. Publish results to members.  
   
3A9   Any additional chapter planning program or initiative (not used elsewhere).  
   
  B.  MEMBER RECOGNITION  
   
3B1 x Recognize your chapter volunteer leaders.  Describe. Volunteer leaders are recognized throughout the year at chapter meetings and in the Chaptergram and on the website.
   
3B2 x Conduct a local Conferment ceremony for your new designees. Conferment conducted each year during the luncheon portion of the Dallas All Industry Day
   
3B3   Any additional member recognition program (not used elsewhere).  
   
  C. MEMBER NETWORKING  
3C1 x Maintain an up-to-date member database. Database is maintained on an ongoing basis, with Chaptergrams and other activities promoted by blast e-mails.
   
3C2 x Conduct a chapter social event.  Describe.  September 20, 2007, event at the Dallas Museum of Art, featured hors d'oeuvres, socializing, and escorted tours of the museum.
   
3C3 x Joint networking meeting with another insurance organization. Joint All Industry Day in November; joint RIMS meeting in May
   
3C4   Any additional program (not used elsewhere) in support of member networking.  
   
  D.  CHAPTER ADMINISTRATION   
3D1 x Activity (other than meeting notice) to improve attendance at meetings or events. At the October chapter meeting, a Bring a Candidate to Lunch contest was held, with everyone bringing a new candidate eligible for a drawing and free lunch for the new candidate.
   
3D2 x Activity or program designed to locate and renew "lapsed" members. Chapter's 60th Anniversary was celebrated at October 2007 meeting; with past presidents from several decades reminding the members of key events in the chapter's history. Special memorial mementoes were given; and members were invited to submit photos and other items, which were used to assemble collages that were on display at the meeting.
   
3D3 x Activity (other than Conferment) to welcome, recognize, involve new designees. Dallas' (and other small Texas chapters') members and new designees and families of all that were in Hawaii for the Annual Meeting were invited to a lunch on the Sheraton Waikiki lawn Monday, September 10.
   
3D4 x Activity to increase participation of retired members. Past presidents honored at February 2008, treated to lunch, given a gift
   
3D5 x Encourage members to volunteer for chapter service. Motivate experienced chapter leaders to apply for CPCU Society service (Governor, Committee, Task Force, etc.)  Explain what was done to encourage members to volunteer for service. Dallas currently has 11 members active in Society service, and others are encouraged on an ongoing basis to reap the rewards of membership by being involved.
   
   
  E. GENERAL SUPPORT OF EDUCATION   
3E 1 x Establish or continue Loman Chapter Membership. The Dallas Chapter supports the Loman Foundation at the $5 per member level.
   
3E 2   Fund/support a library program.  
   
3E 3   Conduct an educational program or activity (other than a scholarship) with local college students (e.g. Gamma Iota Sigma chapters) or local high school (e.g. Driving Safety, Career Day, Project InVest, etc.) Tom Glasson, who is on the board of both the Society and the Dallas chapter, together with Jim Britt, met with the Gamma Iota Sigma Chapter at Baylor University February 2008. Tom spoke with the group about CPCU and its impact on his career and invited members of the organization to attend Dallas chapter meetings.
   
3E 4 x Provide financial sponsorship for an event, speaker or educational program at the Society's Leadership Summit or Annual Meeting NLI Seminar sponsored at April 2008 Orlando meeting
