Dear Dallas CPCU Society,

Over the last year, it has been my honor and privilege to serve as your 2022 President. Together, we have accomplished so many great things. We’ve persevered through personal and professional challenges as our world is finally coming out of a global pandemic that has, no doubt, changed the way that we function indefinitely.

We’ve gone from having 100% virtual meetings since the beginning of 2020, to holding our first in-person events this year! Each was successful, well attended and most importantly, added value to our purpose, mission and continued focus: “…meeting the career needs of a diverse membership of insurance professionals so that they may serve others…” Service is what I love most about our organization.

We’ve partnered with other insurance communities like the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) for a fireside chat with Journalist Tashara Parker and President of Evolution Advisors LLC, Dr. LeRoy Nunery II, and were able to make donations to Minnie’s food pantry. We collaborated the Dallas Claims Association (DCA) on “Hoarding: the Effects on Insurance Claims”; gained knowledge from the President and CEO of the International Risk Management Institute (IRMI) Jack Gibson; learned from an incredible panel with the Spencer Educational Foundation’s External Engagement Director Tandeka Nomvete on the Risk Management and Insurance Landscape. We even “Talked Tort Reform” with former Dallas County Judge Ken Tapscott, Jr.! We’ve hosted powerhouse industry leaders, best-selling authors, Vice Presidents of Risk Management, including our current CPCU Society Global President, Chris Hampshire. This is just a small sample of the awesome contributors and phenomenal content that’s not only added value, but also provided multiple hours of FREE Continuous Education this year!

The Dallas CPCU Society is genuinely an organization and community where you can grow and develop! Our very own Dallas 2020 Past President, Precious Norman-Walton, 2022 winner of the 2022 Elite Woman award by Insurance Business America (IBA) joined our National Leadership Council this year! Nichelle Dawkins, newly elected Bedford Councilwoman was nominated and elected as Vice Chair of the International Membership Committee. Our 2021 Past President Tony LaRocca and International Vice Chair of the Claims Committee was a speaker at this Year’s In2Risk International Convention where, our very own Dallas Volunteer of the Year and New Designee, Megan Jones was also a keynote speaker! And even myself, as your 2022 Chapter President was promoted to a higher level of leadership within my company, State Farm Insurance.

Clearly, I am extremely proud of our collective achievements! Our board is truly outstanding and none of this could have been accomplished without each Chapter Board Leader and Director. Attaining my CPCU in 2016 was just the first step of serving with an exciting and successful community of extraordinary professionals at all levels. I encourage you to join us by getting involved! Please link-up with us at the first event of the year January 26th, 2023!!

I hope that everyone has a very Happy Holiday season and a wonderful New Year!

Tia Tolbert, CPCU®, ENTC®, AIC®

Dallas CPCU Society Chapter President
